Climate Change and Food Security: Situation, Challenges and Response Policy from Nepal, India and Vietnam: a Comparative Study

Resumen

Food insecurity is a global issue, and climate change is getting worse in many regions of the world, it exacerbates instability and inequality while endangering human life and peace. Droughts, floods, storms, and other climate change-related phenomena are making it harder for countries to feed their populations and endangering food supply, accessibility, and usage as well as the stability of the world food system. As a result, there are rising rates of hunger and mortality and a large number of individuals falling into poverty. The following paper by the authors will present a picture of national and international legal concerns concerning food security in the context of climate change in various ASIAN developing countries. To accomplish this, the article will include (i) the international legal framework on food security and climate change, (ii) the current situation, trends, and policy responses of some of the countries chosen as research subjects, and (iii) typical recommendations.

    Dr. NGUYEN Toan Thang is a Lecturer at the Comparative Law Institute, Hanoi Law University. Dr. Nguyen Toan Thang received his Ph.D. in international law from Université Libre de Bruxelles (Belgium) with the thesis titled Coastal Artificial Extension and its Consequences in International Law. Dr. Nguyen Toan Thang holds teaching assignments (Associate Professor) at the International School (Hanoi National University) and Hanoi Open University. Dr. Nguyen Toan Thang has research interests in comparative law, ocean law and policy, the law of the sea in Southeast Asia, and the East Sea (South China Sea) issues. Dr. Nguyen Toan Thang participated in several projects dealing with East Sea issues and spoke at various national and international Conferences. Email: ngthang@hlu.edu.vn
  • Yen Thi Hong Nguyen, Hanoi Law University (HLU)
    Dr. Nguyen Thi Hong Yen is a senior lecturer and researcher in international law at Hanoi Law University (HLU). She has a prolific record of publications in esteemed national and international journals and publishers. Her research focuses on various areas of public international law, including international human rights law, international law of the sea, international environmental law, climate change, and more. From 2012 to 2019, Dr. Nguyen Thi Hong Yen received several government scholarships in these fields and held visiting appointments and fellow positions at prestigious European universities.
  • Amritha Shenoy, Kathmandu School of Law
    Amritha V. Shenoy is assistant professor, Kathmandu School of Law, Bhaktapur, Nepal, since 2018. She was awarded a Ph.D. in 2018 from the Centre for International Legal Studies, Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi. Her area of work includes history of international law from an Indian perspective, international human rights law, international environmental law, and jurisprudence.     Dr. S. Anandha Krishna Raj, Associate Professor completed his graduation in law from Chennai, at Dr. Ambedkar Government Law College affiliated to The Tamil Nadu Dr. Ambedkar Law University and enrolled in New Delhi Bar Council to Practice in Supreme Court of India. He has done his Masters LLM from Krukshetra University and M.A (Sociology) from Jawaharlal Nehru University. Later, he completed his M.Phil. and Ph.d in international law from Jawaharlal Nehru University under the supervision of eminent scholar, Professor Dr. B.S. Chimni. His topic in Ph.d thesis is ‘Towards a Materialist Theory of International Law’. Currently, he is working as an Associate Professor of Law, VIT School of Law, VIT University, Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India. His academic publications have appeared in various national journals.

    Anbarasi. G is an academic legal professional specialized in criminal law and criminal justice administration. Anbarasi earned her B.A.B.L. (Hons.) from the School of Excellence in Law at The Tamil Nadu Dr. Ambedkar Law University in 2016 and her LL.M. in criminal law and criminal justice administration in 2018, where her dissertation focused on "The Urge to Reinstate the Moratorium on Death Penalty in India”. She is currently pursuing a Ph.D. at VIT School of Law, focusing on artificial intelligence in the criminal justice process. Her academic career includes serving as an Assistant Professor at SRM Institute of Science and Technology and, since November 2019, at VIT School of Law. Qualified in both the Tamilnadu State Eligibility Test (TNSET) and University Grants Commission National Eligibility test, her research interests include criminal law, cyber law, criminology, forensic science, and human rights. She has presented and published numerous papers on these subjects and delivered special lectures at various forums.
